Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the dissertation stage you must have already achieved 120 credits at level 7 (achieved within the past 5 years). Usually you will have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Education at Staffordshire University or a partner institution.

A contractual role (full-time or fractional) or long-term voluntary placement that sees you working as an education practitioner in an education organisation, for a minimum of 4 hours per week (or equivalent), whilst enrolled on the programme.

Curriculum

Once you have successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (120 credits), you will need to complete a two stage dissertation project in order to complete your MA Education. Your independent dissertation project officially takes place over one academic year (September – September), although a compulsory ‘Dissertation Preparation’ event takes place in the June before you formally start your dissertation. Stage One of the dissertation sees you actively design your research project and produce a formal research proposal (7000 words). This stage is studied between September – December and your formal research proposal is submitted for assessment in January. This first stage of the dissertation consists of 30 credits. Once your research proposal has been approved in February, you then progress onto Stage Two of the dissertation.

Stage Two of the dissertation project sees you implement your research proposal. In other words, during Stage Two, you will carry out your research, reflect on your research design, analyse the data you generate and write up your research findings and recommendations for developing practice (8500 words). You will complete Stage Two between January – September. The second stage of the dissertation also consists of 30 credits. On successful completion of both stages, you will graduate with your MA Education in the July following your submission of the Stage Two assessment.
