Entry Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum 2.2 Honours in any discipline.

Note: We would normally expect you to have Grade C in GCSE English and Maths.

English Language Requirements:

  • Overall IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening (or recognised equivalent).

Curriculum

You will learn the full range of research methods, such as how to conduct a questionnaire, how to identify a sample size, how to use statistics and how to design a study. You will learn interviewing skills and you will examine how to be an ethical researcher.

We have also developed some novel techniques, such as how you can use art to allow people to explore social issues.

Planning, managing and organising your research are some of the important skills that we teach you. You will learn how to understand and assess evidence. And you’ll explore your career options and find out what funding opportunities are out there for researchers.

It is a flexible course and, as well as studying generic research skills, you can choose to take modules from any subject-based master’s course at UEL that is relevant to you.

The MRes course culminates in a final dissertation, which will be on a subject that you choose. It could be on a research exercise in a real-life setting.
