Entry Requirements

Our typical offer would be 200 UCAS points normally achieved over a minimum of either two or more A levels, an AVCE double award, BTEC National Diploma or other equivalent qualification. This includes any stand alone AS levels,Key Skills at Level 3 and Access to HE Diploma full award (Pass of 60 credits - of which a minimum of 45 credits must be at level 3 including 18 at Merit or Distinction).

GCSE English and Maths grade C or above

A satisfactory reference will be required as part of our selection process.

Language entry requirements

The University accepts the following minimum English language standards for entry to its degree courses.

You must have at least one of the following standards in English to enter a degree or diploma course:

An IELTS score of 6.0, or a TOEFL score of 550 (or 213 for the computer-based test)

Pearson PTE Academic score of 54

A pass in the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) examination

A pass in the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) examination

GCSE/GCE O Level grade C or equivalent British-based examination

For selected countries, a good pass in English in the final year of secondary school (this being the equivalent of year 13 in England and Wales), or

Any other equivalent qualification recognised by the British Council (as listed in the British Council NARIC Guide) or an equivalent body

For entry to the BA (Hons) English Language and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programmes, you will need a score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, since this is a special award which includes an international qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

Curriculum

For the UK BA (Hons) Business and Law :-

In Year 1 you will explore the fundamental areas of law including Legal Skills, English & European Legal Systems, Public Law, Contract Law; areas of business will include the Global Business Environment, Introduction to People at work, Business Accounting and Principles of Marketing.

In Year 2 there are core business subject of Managerial Economics and the opportunity to choose from Business Finance, Leading and Managing in Organisations, Managing Customers and Managerial Systems and Operations; legal subjects of study include Commercial Law and Intellectual Property Law.

And a module in Alternative Dispute Resolution which provides the opportunity to apply to become an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

During your final year you will have the opportunity to study either Research Methods, Mooting and Debating or a Community Link Project; Strategic Management, Researching Business & Management Issues and International Trade & Finance Law are core subjects with a choice of Company Law or Contemporary Issues in European Law; further options include Organisational Theory, Contemporary Issues in HR, Corporate Financial Management, Debating Globalisation and International Marketing.

For the Hong Kong BA (Hons) Business and Law :-

Subjects of study are similar but more restricted because of the style of intensive block delivery necessary, so in Year 2 the modules are restricted to Introduction to Common Law, Commercial Law and Managerial Economics.

During the final year, business topics include Organisational Theory, Strategic Management and Researching Business and Management Issues, with law subjects of International Trade and Finance Law and Company Law.
