Bachelor of Science in Marine Biotechnology (Hons)
About
Xiamen University (XMU) has been at the forefront of maritime research in China for nearly a century. Established in 1946, the Department of Oceanography is the first of its kind in China. The College of Ocean and Earth Sciences is a leading marine research institution with a focus on marine science. Its faculty includes a Chinese Academy of Sciences academician and experts from China's "Thousand Talents Plant" recruitment program. The college has excellent research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science and the National Experimental Centre for Education. It also has an advanced general-purpose research vessel, Jiageng, equipped with cutting-edge scientific instruments and has been conducting interdisciplinary oceanographic cruises in international waters since 2016.
The China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences (CAMS) was founded with support from XMU and the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund, which is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. The China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences at Xiamen University Malaysia established a pioneer program in marine biotechnology. This program allows students to learn from specialists at both Malaysian and Chinese campuses during their studies. The well-equipped facilities for teaching and research in marine science and biotechnology allow students to undertake practical experiments during their bachelor's studies. The Marine Biotechnology program prepares graduates to manage aquatic resources through environmentally friendly aquaculture production and conduct research on marine biology, fisheries, aquaculture, and other biotechnology-related techniques. They are trained to understand current environmental issues and marine biotechnology challenges. XMU Malaysia and China campuses provide postgraduate programs for students interested in furthering their education in this field.
