BSc Marine Environmental Chemistry (Hons)
About
Xiamen University (XMU) has been at the forefront of maritime research in China for nearly a century. Established in 1946, the Department of Oceanography was the first of its kind in China. The College of Ocean and Earth Sciences has become one of China's top marine research schools, with Marine Science as a significant discipline. The faculty includes two academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as experts from China's "Thousand Talents Plan" global expert recruitment program. The college has great instructional and research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science, the National Experimental Centre for Education, and the multi-purpose scientific research vessel, Jiageng. Since 2016, this vessel has been equipped with cutting-edge scientific instruments, providing students with hands-on exposure and research opportunities in oceanography. The China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences (CAMS) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) was established with strong support from XMU and is supported by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund. The facilities are well-equipped for teaching and research in marine and environmental science, allowing students to obtain practical experience even at the undergraduate level.
P
rofessionals in marine environmental monitoring, investigation, protection, and management are in high demand due to the critical role of the marine environment in preserving aquatic resources and supporting sustainable economic development. As a result, our Marine Environmental Chemistry program was launched. This curriculum teaches students how to manage marine resources and ecosystems while meeting market, industry, and societal needs. Students will learn how to use marine resources sustainably and become environmentally conscious. Students interested in furthering their education in this field might apply for postgraduate programs at XMU.
