The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biology is designed to produce graduates who possess critical thinking skills, a passion for lifelong learning, and the expertise required to meet both national and global demands in biology. Entry Requirements
Master’s Degree
- A Master’s degree in a biological sciences discipline or related fields that is accepted by University Senate.
Other Qualifications
- Any other qualifications will be considered on a case-to-case basis and subject to the approval and acceptance by the University Senate.
English Language Requirements
Any of the following
- IELTS 6.0 or equivalent
- TOEFL 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 80 (internet-based)
- PTE Academic 50 overall (minimum 46 in each skill)
For International/Malaysian applicants
English is the medium of instruction of the previous degree for candidates from universities in non-English speaking countries outside Malaysia.
Statement of Research Interest (needed for application)
The research statement/proposal should have 1,000 words (excluding references) and covers the following structure:
- An appropriate title for the research project (designated supervisor if known)
- Introduction (justification of the study or research gap)
- Problem statement
- Research Question(s)
- Research objective(s)

Thesis
The PhD is awarded based on the successful completion of a thesis. The thesis should demonstrate proficiency, criticality and mastery in the subject or chosen area of research.
