What is the Future of Tourism? PATA Youth Forum to Vision the Future

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) student chapter will be hosting the PATA Int'l Youth Forum (PIYF) on the Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus on Nov 6th & 7th. PATA is the leading regional tourism organisation, based in Bangkok and Taylor’s University has one of the most active student chapters in the region. This is the third time that Taylor’s University has hosted the Forum, and the theme for this year is "Paint the Future – Envisioning Tourism in 30 Years". As Madelyn Toh (the academic advisor to the PATA Student Chapter) pointed out "for 2015 we already have 40+ international students committed to coming" from institutions such as Far Eastern University in the Philippines. Last year students came from the University of Macau and the Institute for Tourism Studies in Macao, STB Tourism School Bali, Lyceum University of the Philippines in Manila, and the Dusit Thani Hotel School in Bangkok. This year's event again promises a range of interactive and engaging workshops led by Mr Chris Flynn from the PATA Pacific Office in Australia. The PIYF Forum itself will then have a series of expert sessions and students will then work in multi-national teams to develop some presentations on what tourism in the region will look like. As Prof Perry Hobson noted, "We need to develop a positive vision of what tourism can do for a destination, and the role it can play in different communities". Hosted by the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, the registration fee is at US$50. For more information, contact Ms. Rose or check-out the YouTube video here.
