Taylor's International Student Experience (ISE) recently launched its ‘Buddy System’ under the Best Buddies Connect (BBC) programme. The aim is to assist new international students to settle-in smoothly into Taylor’s University, and also to life in Malaysia. New international students who sign-up for the programme are all assigned a Buddy (who is a senior student) to assist them from the very first day they arrive on-campus. Their buddy is available to offer support and assistance as needed – and activities typically included giving them a campus tour, getting a student ID card, enrolling in classes and accessing the WiFi. Their buddies also introduce and familiarise the students with the many additional support service facilities available on the campus, and also to introduce them to the many student organisations. This semester the Buddies also organised a "KL Familiarisation Tour" for the new international students. They were taken around in small groups, and over 75 international students from some fifteen nationalities participated on the tour. Initially shown how to use public transport, the students then used the trains, monorail and buses to see many of the iconic sights in KL – such as the Central Market, City Gallery and the Petronas Towers at KLCC.
