With Ramakrishna Ashrama as the campaign’s main and only beneficiary, The Book Affair 2014 aimed to encourage youths to donate their old and used reading materials to benefit more people. The public was also encouraged to donate reading materials which were either fiction, non-fiction or educational in English or Malay language.
Prior to "The Book Affair 2014", several pre-events took place at Occupy Beach Street as well as at foyer of KDU Penang. These pre-events included redemption programme, goodie bag give away, the selling of reading materials and the collection of donations for Ramakrishna Ashrama.
On the actual event day, 1 October 2014, a mini-book fair was held along with some stage performances. There was also a prize presentation ceremony for The Book Affair 2014 for Top Donor Award.
Kang Pei Ling from TAR University College Penang donated 252 books, emerged as the first prize winner under the individual donor category walked away with RM4000 worth of assorted vouchers which include a 3D2N Holiday at Coral Redang Resort. As for the first prize for group category, the winners were Kang Wen Sze, Ng Ke Chin and Ng Ke Nam from USM who donated 302 books. They bagged RM5110 worth of assorted vouchers which include a 2D1N Rock Star Holiday at Hard Rock Hotel Penang.
On a final note, the organising committee of The Book Affair 2014 would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the members of the media, sponsors, lecturers and supporters for their unwavering support and guidance.
