Victorious Win for Raffles Fashion Designers

Singapore – It was a triumphant win for Raffles Fashion Designers, Laurensia Salim and Veronica Lee, at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) World Boutique Hong Kong Fashion Week. Laurensia battled against nine finalists from Asia and Europe at the finals of The EcoChic Design Award 2014/15, clinching a special prize with John Hardy and an educational trip to a design and production workshop in Bali, Indonesia to learn about sustainability leadership. The competition was witnessed by 500 influential industries and and global audience via a live streaming video in January 2015.

“I am honoured to receive the Special Prize amongst the other finalists who have done a great job in creating sustainable collection for this competition. Through this competition, I have learned the process of creating sustainable collection from sourcing the fabric to design process and creating the garment. Although it was challenging, it was an inspiring experience for me as it has changed how I  chose products wisely to minimise wastage. My Creative Practitioners have also provided help and guidance throughout this  competition. They monitored my progress and provided constructive advices in improving my collection. They were the ones who brought me to the path of sustainable fashion and I will continue to pursue it.” said Laurensia.

Veronica, as one of the finalists of The EcoChic Design Award 2014/15, partnered a Swedish designer and won The Redress Forum 2015: Ford Design Challenge in January 2015. Her challenge was to create a fashion design statement using a selection of sustainable materials used in Ford vehicles. She was also the recipient of the an education fund.

The EcoChic Design Award brings together fashion designers from Asian and European countries, sharing a common goal of promoting an environmentally low-impact fashion industry with minimal textile waste.
