Entry Requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements to study this qualification.

Curriculum

This degree has three stages, each comprising 120 credits (equivalent to one year's full-time university study). Most students study 60 credits a year, taking on average six years to complete. We recommend that you study Stage 1 over two years as it provides the underpinning knowledge and skills needed for more advanced study at Stages 2 and 3.

Stage 1 (120 credits)
You’ll start with an introduction to the study of law – exploring why laws exist; how they’re applied and interpreted; key concepts such as legal personality, culpability and legal liability; and the role played by the legal system. You’ll then consider the nature of legal obligations; morality and justice; and the meaning of justice in a legal system.

Stages 2 and 3 (240 credits)
Stages 2 and 3 cover the seven ‘Foundations of Legal Knowledge’: Contract and Restitution, Tort, Criminal law, Equity and trusts, EU law, Land law, and Public law. By the end of your studies – provided that you complete your degree within six years – you’ll have a qualifying LLB (a requirement if you want to become a solicitor or barrister) and will be able to demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills that are highly prized by employers in all sectors.
