Student success at the Young Hoteliers Summit

Tuesday, March 29, 2016 - Second year student Gerald Murati was part of the winning team at the 2016 Young Hoteliers Summit competition.

This is the third consecutive year that students from the London College of Hospitality and Tourism have enjoyed success at the Summit’s student competition. Two UWL students, Gerald Murati and Perpetua Kirschstein took part in this year’s competition.

The Young Hoteliers Summit is an annual event which brings together young talent from over 40 hospitality schools from around the world, and took place at the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland, from 14-16 March 2016. The event includes workshops and inspiring talks from industry leaders, as well as the student challenge competition.

Students were divided into teams and were set the challenge to suggest how to reduce the time for a graduate to become a hotel General Manager in a Four Seasons hotel in just nine years, as the average time taken is currently 17 years. UWL student Gerald Murati was able to draw upon his studies and his experience working at the Ritz Hotel to win the competition with his team.

Dr Charalampos Giousmpasoglou, Associate Professor in Hospitality and Food Studies, said, ‘This was once again an exciting experience. Both the students and the College have the valuable opportunity to create links and network with colleagues and top industry professionals. We look forward to participating in next year’s Young Hoteliers Summit.’
