Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs grades A*-C including English and art & design or a relevant Level 2 qualification at merit or above. You must bring a portfolio of your artwork.
Curriculum
Year 1:
- Graphic design: Layout skills, image manipulation, typography, illustration, publishing, visual identity/branding and the design process.
- IT: Introduction to the industry standard creative suite, desktop publishing, computer aided design, introduction to software packages (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator).
- Visual studies: Drawing, painting, printmaking, photography.
- Contextual studies: Analysis of popular culture, contemporary design, history of design, including business studies and communication.
Year 2:
- Students will further their skills in illustration, typography, photography, publishing, annimation and contextual studies. They will be introduced to processes such as visualising, storyboards, concept boards, packaging design and promotion.
- Students will be required to respond to a range of breifs, gaining insight into music packaging, advertising and website design.
- In addition students are given the opportunity to participate in live breifs, work placements and UK and national design competitions.
- All students are required to complete print and online portfolios to enable them to apply to universities and go into employment.
- Basic theories of psychology will be investigated in relation to advertising strategies; this will also incorporate social economic factors, degrees or awareness and consumer perceptions.
